Timeline
- 1471Barnet · HertfordshireBy 1471 George had left Warwick's camp and returned to his brother Edward IV, loyally serving the Yorkist cause at the battles of Barnet and Tewkesbury; after Warwick's defeat he stood prominent as a close royal prince and received a large share of Warwick's inheritance.
- 1472–1476Warwick · WarwickshireIn the 1470s George quarreled fiercely with his brother Richard of Gloucester over the Earl of Warwick's inheritance and the marriage of their sister-in-law Anne Neville; Edward IV ruled in Richard's favor. George then repeatedly defied the king in public, was suspected of sorcery, and plotted rebellion, gradually losing the king's trust and being expelled from court.
- 1477–1478Tower of London · Greater LondonGeorge was again charged with treason in 1477, and an act of Parliament stripped him of his titles and estates; convicted after a parliamentary trial in January 1478, he was imprisoned in the Tower of London and executed there in mysterious circumstances in February (legend says he was drowned in a butt of mace), a rare execution of a reigning king's brother that shook the political landscape.
