Timeline
- 1321–1325Kamakura · KantōIn the early 1320s Takatoki was already active in Tokusō house politics; after the Shōka Disturbance of 1324 Hōjō Sadatoki lost influence and Takatoki gradually took over clan affairs. Meanwhile relations between the shogunate and Emperor Go-Daigo worsened, and events like the Shōchō Disturbance (1328) foreshadowed greater conflict.
- 1326–1330Kamakura · KantōIn 1326 Takatoki took office as regent at only twenty-something; he handled government business through the hyōjōshū but struggled to effectively command the gokenin and shugo daimyo. Between 1328 and 1330 court-shogunate friction was constant, and though Takatoki held the power of military mobilization, suppressing the anti-shogunal network in Kyoto still proved beyond him.
- 1331–1333Kamakura · KantōAfter the Genkō Disturbance broke out in 1331, Takatoki ordered Emperor Go-Daigo attacked and exiled to Oki; in 1333 Ashikaga Takauji, Nitta Yoshisada and others defected, Kamakura's defenses collapsed, and Takatoki took his own life with his clan at Tōshō-ji, ending the Kamakura shogunate.
