Timeline

  1. 1071–1073Córdoba · Al-AndalusAfter 1031 central authority in Córdoba disintegrated and the taifa states each went their own way. In the early 1070s the states of Seville, Granada, Málaga, Badajoz, Toledo, Zaragoza, and others coexisted, forming a multi-centered pattern of division.
  2. 1074–1078Granada · Al-AndalusThe taifa states frequently fought one another over territory and tribute, while also paying tribute and forming alliances among themselves. Powerful states such as Granada's Zirid dynasty and Seville's Abbadid dynasty imposed suzerainty over weaker taifas, further solidifying the structure of division.
  3. 1079–1080Toledo · CastileChristian kingdoms such as León-Castile continued to press southward, and some taifas paid tribute to Christian rulers and sought their aid. The taifas' overall military strength was dispersed and lacked unified command; by around 1080 the defensive system already appeared fragile.
