Timeline

  1. 1121–1122Liao Central Capital, Dadongfu · Inner MongoliaThe Jin had already taken Liao's Supreme Capital in summer 1120. In spring 1121 a coup by Empress Yelü's clan failed, and Yelü Yudu defected to Jin while still commanding his troops. In winter 1121–1122 Yelü Yudu led Jin forces to capture the Central Capital. Emperor Tianzuo ordered Yelü Chun to hold the Southern Capital before fleeing west. The associated claim 'the Supreme Capital fell the following year' contradicts historical fact and has been removed.
  2. 1122Liao Southern Capital, Xijinfu · North ChinaAfter Emperor Tianzuo fled west, the Jin army followed and occupied the Western Capital Datongfu. In autumn 1122 Song forces failed to take Yanjing; that winter Aguda personally took the Southern Capital. Liao lost its heartland entirely, paving the way for the capture of Tianzuo and the fall of Liao in 1125.
