Timeline

  1. 1561–1564Kawanakajima · Nagano PrefectureShingen continued pressing his control over the castles of Shinano, repeatedly facing and fighting Uesugi Kenshin of Echigo in the Kawanakajima area (including the Fourth Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561). Though he failed to destroy the Uesugi entirely, Takeda dominance in Shinano gradually solidified.
  2. 1565–1568Sagami Province · Kanagawa PrefectureIn the mid-to-late 1560s, Takeda and the Hōjō alternated between war and peace within the framework of the Kai–Sagami–Suruga alliance. Shingen exploited the decline of the Imagawa to adjust relations with the Hōjō and Imagawa, paving the way for the subsequent invasion of Suruga.
  3. 1568–1570Suruga Province · Shizuoka PrefectureFrom late 1568 Shingen launched a full-scale invasion of Suruga, attacking the weakened Imagawa and approaching Tokugawa lands. Takeda power thus expanded from Kai–Shinano into Suruga, directly threatening the Oda–Tokugawa Tōkaidō alliance and setting the stage for larger conflicts in the 1570s.
