  1. 1085–1100Salerno · ApuliaHe succeeded to the duchy after his father Guiscard died in 1085, with Salerno as his capital. He contested with his brother Bohemond over territories gained from the Antioch expedition, and had to contend with Pope Urban II and local Lombard lords. In the early years of his rule he still maintained the Norman alliance in southern Italy, but the duchy's authority was gradually eroded.
  2. 1101–1110Salerno · ApuliaBetween 1101 and 1110 the duchy fragmented further, with lords at Melfi, Capua and elsewhere growing powerful, while his nephew Roger II rose in Sicily. Borsa, old and frail, could not restore central authority. He died at Salerno on 22 December 1110, at only about fifty, and his young son William II succeeded under a regency arrangement.
