Timeline

  1. 1109–1110Zaragoza · ZaragozaIn late 1109, al-Musta'in II forced the citizens of Zaragoza to swear allegiance and recognize his son Imad al-Dawla as heir. In early January 1110 he personally led troops north to raid the Navarrese frontier, attacking towns near Olite via Tudela, compelling the inhabitants to pay tribute and hand over hostages.
  2. 1110Valtierra (Camara) · NavarreWhile retreating, al-Musta'in was ambushed near Valtierra by Navarrese and Aragonese knights. The Christian forces won and the emir was killed. Early Christian sources do not directly name King Alfonso I of Aragon as a participant—he was at Sahagún at the time—but the Uraca charter (March 1110) records that 'knights of Aragon and Pamplona killed al-Musta'in above Valtierra.'
  3. 1110Zaragoza · ZaragozaAfter the emir's death, his son Imad al-Dawla succeeded him but was unable to maintain independence. The Almoravid governor of Valencia marched north; a pro-Almoravid faction inside Zaragoza staged a coup and admitted the North African army on 29 June 1110. The remaining Hudid line retreated to the fortress of Rueda de Jalón, and the taifa political landscape was fundamentally reversed.
