Song-Jin demarcation at the Huai River
The Shaoxing Peace Treaty set the Huai River midstream as the eastern border and Dasan Pass as the west;…
Timeline
- 1141Huai River · Bengbu CityDuring the Shaoxing Peace negotiations, the two sides agreed that the east would be bounded by the midstream of the Huai River and the west by Dasan Pass, with the south belonging to Song and the north to Jin. Southern Song ceded Tangzhou and Dengzhou as well as most of Shangzhou and Qinzhou, losing the Central Plains heartland recovered by Yue Fei.
- 1141–1142Dasan Pass · Baoji CityThe western section of the treaty used Dasan Pass as the boundary, and Song lost large tracts of Shaanxi and Gansu land north of the Qinling. The Song-Jin border thus formed a north-south confrontation line running from the Huai River in the east to Dasan Pass in the west, which remained the basic national border for over a century.
- 1142Huai River · Huai'an CityAfter the treaty took effect, both Song and Jin stationed heavy forces along the Huai River–Dasan Pass line. Southern Song established border strongholds such as Xuyi Commandery and Xiangyang Prefecture, while Jin controlled the north of the Huai. Annual tribute payments were delivered to Sizhou each spring, and border marketplaces (quchang) opened accordingly.
