  2. 1673–1674Thanjavur · ThanjavurIn 1673–1674 Venkoji led Maratha forces south, defeated the Nayak ruler Vijayaraghava, captured Thanjavur and was crowned raja, establishing a South Indian Maratha branch state and implementing local administration and temple-endowment policies.
