Timeline

  1. 1632Northern Altmark · AltmarkAs the northern German front of the Thirty Years' War developed, Swedish forces advanced from Pomerania into the Altmark region, aiming to control key routes on the Elbe's west bank and cut imperial supply and communication lines from Hamburg to Saxony. Under pressure, the Electorate of Brandenburg remained neutral, allowing the Swedes to enter the region relatively smoothly.
  2. 1632Altmark region · Margraviate of BrandenburgImperial forces attempted to intervene and reestablish control in the Altmark, and small-scale engagements broke out at several points in the region. Relying on their mobility, the Swedes gradually repelled imperial resistance and secured control of the main towns and crossings. This operation effectively safeguarded the rear of the Swedish main army's southward advance into Saxony (ultimately taking part in the Battle of Lützen).
