Timeline

  1. 1386–1392Vilnius · LithuaniaAfter Jogaila was crowned King of Poland, Skirgaila was appointed to exercise grand-ducal authority in Lithuania on his behalf. He was baptized in 1387 under the name Ivan, governed from Vilnius, and carried out measures of Christianization.
  2. 1390–1397Lithuania · LithuaniaIn the 1390s civil war broke out between Skirgaila and Vytautas and the factions of Jogaila. After Vytautas was restored under the Agreement of Ostrov in 1392, Skirgaila was removed from the core of power and died near Kiev in 1397.
