Timeline
- 1061–1065Fatimid court in Cairo · EgyptThough al-Mustansir was nominally caliph, real power largely rested with the viziers and court factions. - 1066–1070Egypt and Syrian domains · LevantBy the mid-to-late 1060s, famine and the pressure of mutinies compounded, and the caliphal court's control beyond Cairo declined further. Governors and military commanders in Syria, Palestine, and elsewhere grew ever more autonomous, and the Fatimid empire entered a prolonged period of internal strife.
