Timeline

  1. 1487Dublin · LeinsterRemnant Yorkist forces packaged the youth Lambert Simnel as the imprisoned Earl of Warwick, Edward, and with the support of the Lord Deputy of Ireland held a coronation ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, proclaiming him 'Edward VI' to win the support of Irish local nobility and the Church.
  2. 1487Stoke Field · NottinghamshireThe Earl of Lincoln led some two thousand German mercenaries and Irish troops, landing at Fishguard and marching east, where they encountered Henry VII's royal army at Stoke Field in Nottinghamshire. The royal army, with superior numbers and artillery, routed the rebels; the Earl of Lincoln was killed, the main force of the rebellion destroyed, and the battle is regarded as the last great battle of the Wars of the Roses.
  3. 1487London · LondonAfter the rebellion failed, Henry VII took Simnel into his household as a servant rather than executing him, and publicly displayed the real Earl of Warwick to expose the imposture. This lenient handling both removed the Yorkists' pretext for rallying and demonstrated Tudor royal confidence and control at home and abroad.
