Timeline
- 1121–1125Toledo · CastileQueen Urraca nominally ruled the León–Castile–Galicia union, but the nobility in each region was highly autonomous; Alfonso VII was granted direct authority over Toledo from 1116, and had already been crowned king of Galicia at Santiago de Compostela in 1111; unification proceeded slowly in the early 1120s.
- 1126–1127León · LeónAfter Urraca died on 10 March 1126, Alfonso VII was crowned in León Cathedral, immediately launching military operations to recover Castile from Alfonso I and working to curb the autonomy of local nobles and consolidate central authority.
- 1127–1128Támara · CastileIn the Treaty of Támara, Alfonso I formally recognized Alfonso VII's rule over Castile–León, removing the greatest external obstacle to unification posed by Aragon. Alfonso VII then set about reorganizing the eastern frontier nobility and reaffirmed his claim to the title 'Emperor of All Spain'.
