1446–1465Tbilisi · KartliSucceeded Vakhtang IV as the last ruler of the unified kingdom, contending for years with his brother Dmitry III and the nobles of Imereti. After the defeat at Chikhori in 1463, Imereti broke away and the kingdom's unity existed in name only.
1466–1476Kakheti · KakhetiAfter being released by Qvarqare II, he led his followers east into Kakheti, was acclaimed by the local nobles, and declared Kakheti's independence. From 1460 he had already appointed his eldest son Alexander as co-ruler, laying the foundation of the independent Kingdom of Kakheti.
