  1. 1598–1621Brussels · BrabantRuled jointly with her husband Albert VII under the title Archduke and Archduchess of the Brabant provinces, easing religious conflict, reviving the Flanders economy and arts, and maintaining the military standoff with the northern Republic of the United Provinces.
  2. 1631–1633Brussels · BrabantAfter Albert's death in 1621 she ruled alone as governor, still directing Netherlandish affairs in the early 1630s; facing pressure from the United Provinces and France she kept the Catholic southern provinces stable, dying in Brussels on 1 December 1633.
