Timeline
- 1593–1594Paris · Île-de-FranceAfter converting to Catholicism, Henry IV was crowned at Chartres Cathedral on 27 February 1594 because Reims was still held by the League, and on 22 March he entered Paris at the head of about fifteen hundred cuirassiers. The League lost its core reason for resisting the throne.
- 1595Folembray · FranceAfter the Battle of Fontaine-Française, Mayenne broke with the Spanish faction and in September 1595 accepted the Edict of Folembray: he received the three surety towns of Châlons, Sens, and Soissons for six years, the governorship of Île-de-France (excluding Paris, Melun, and Saint-Denis), and an indemnity of nine hundred thousand livres, while being cut off from his old power networks in Burgundy.
- 1596Château de Folembray · FranceIn January 1596, Mayenne knelt before Henry IV at the Château de Folembray, denouncing the 'tricks' of Spain and Italy that had led him astray from his lawful king. Henry embraced him and strolled with him through the gardens. The League was by this point a national armed organization in name only; Mercoeur surrendered at Angers on 20 March 1598, and that same year the Edict of Nantes and the Peace of Vervins brought the war to a close.
