Timeline
- 1107–1108León · LeónIn 1107 Alfonso VI named his illegitimate son Sancho as heir in León, angering factions represented by the Burgundian son-in-law Raymond and Henry. In May 1108 Sancho was defeated and killed at Uclés, sharply intensifying the succession crisis; the king had to fall back on his daughter Urraca and her son Alfonso Raimúndez.
- 1109Sahagún · LeónUrraca succeeded after Alfonso VI's death. To counter the Almoravid threat, the late king had arranged Urraca's remarriage to King Alfonso I of Aragon. The marriage treaty made them co-rulers in each other's territories, and Aragonese troops garrisoned cities in León and Castile, provoking fierce opposition from the nobility and the Church.
- 1110–1114Castile and Galicia · CastileCount Henry of Portugal, Bishop Diego Gelmírez of Galicia, and Burgundian nobles resisted Aragonese interference. In 1111 Alfonso Raimúndez was crowned king of Galicia at Santiago, and relations between Urraca and Alfonso I deteriorated. Pope Paschal II declared the marriage invalid, and the couple separated in 1114, but Aragonese garrisons and local rebellions continued to plague the kingdom.
