Timeline
- 1090–1092Isfahan · IranIn his later years Malik-Shah still controlled a vast empire, but his sons stood side by side; the powerful minister Nizam al-Mulk was assassinated in October 1092, central control over frontier governors weakened, and succession arrangements became an increasing liability.
- 1092Baghdad · IraqAfter reaching Baghdad, Malik-Shah died while hunting nearby at the age of thirty-seven; contemporary and modern scholarship generally holds that he did not die of natural illness but that his death was connected to court and caliph conflicts. His body was returned to Isfahan, and the resulting power vacuum immediately triggered a struggle for succession.
