After Kaykubad III was deposed by the Ilkhan in 1302, Mesud II returned to Konya around 1303 with the support of Khan Ghazan, once again becoming the nominal supreme ruler of Rum and beginning to rebuild control over the towns of central Anatolia.
- 1304–1308Konya · RumBetween 1304 and 1308, Mesud II maintained the last effective rule of the Sultanate of Rum centered on Konya, paying tribute to Ilkhan Öljaitü and cooperating with his Anatolian policies. During this period Kaykubad III re-established himself along the Sivas line to contest power, and clashes between the two sides were constant. In 1308 Mesud II died in military confrontation with Kaykubad III; the Seljuk regime of Rum disintegrated further, and local Anatolian beyliks and Ilkhanid governors grew in power.
