In the 1040s the Buyid branches were badly split; Tughril took Ray in 1049–1050 and entered Baghdad in 1055, ending Buyid rule.
Timeline
- 1041–1048Western Iran · IranSince the late 10th century the Buyid dynasty had been divided among Iraq, Ray, Fars, and Kirman; in the 1040s the branches fought each other frequently and their military strength was hollowed out, unable to resist the Seljuk advance eastward.
- 1049–1050Ray · JibalTughril captured Ray, depriving the last Buyid emirs of Jibal of their most important stronghold; control of western Iran passed to the Seljuks, and Buyid rule in their core region effectively ended.
- 1050–1062Fars · FarsAfter 1050 only marginal branches in Fars and Kirman remained; after Tughril entered Baghdad in 1055 Iraq too slipped from Buyid control; in 1062 the last emir of Fars was killed and the Buyid dynasty was completely extinguished.
