Timeline
- 1370–1371Breton frontier and Saint-Mor · BrittanyAfter the Battle of Pontvallain, du Guesclin sent Olivier de Clisson west in pursuit of Robert Knolles, sweeping up remaining enemy forces north of the Loire from mid-December and capturing key places such as Saint-Mor in early 1371. Du Guesclin, a Breton knight familiar with the local terrain, effectively cut the English off from their Breton allies.
- 1372–1374La Rochelle and inland Brittany · BrittanyIn 1372 du Guesclin besieged La Rochelle, and with the Castilian fleet destroying Pembroke's fleet he took the port. He defeated the English again at the Battle of Chizé in 1373. In 1374 John IV returned to Auray to convening the Estates but failed; in April Charles V ordered du Guesclin and Clisson to lead a heavy force into Brittany, compelling the Breton nobility to submit to the French king's authority and laying the groundwork for France's advantage over Brittany in the later Bruges negotiations.
