Timeline

  1. c. 1265Caesarea · PalestineBaybars led the main Mamluk army to the walls of Caesarea; the city's defenses were weak and it fell after brief resistance. Baybars immediately ordered the walls and harbor facilities demolished, completely eliminating its strategic value to prevent the Crusaders from using it to land and counterattack in the future.
  2. c. 1265Arsuf (Apollonia) · PalestineThe Mamluk army besieged Arsuf fortress, held by the Knights Hospitaller, for about forty days. The Hospitaller garrison resisted stubbornly but was forced to surrender in late April 1265 after supplies ran out. Baybars allowed the defenders to withdraw to Acre with their belongings, then completely demolished the fortress, depriving the Crusaders of this important coastal stronghold.
  3. c. 1265Haifa and the Sharon Plain · PalestineAfter capturing the main targets, Mamluk cavalry units carried out large-scale raids on Haifa and the agricultural areas of the Sharon Plain, destroying crops and burning villages, further weakening the Crusader states' food reserves and economic base. Baybars then led the main army back to Egypt, ending the 1265 offensive, but Mamluk strategic pressure in the Levant continued unabated.
