1. 1022Imperial palace of Kaifeng Prefecture, Eastern Capital · KaifengAfter Zhenzong's death, Crown Prince Zhao Zhen ascended the throne the same day as Emperor Renzong. Historical records state he was only thirteen, enthroned by eunuchs and ministers under the late emperor's edict, completing Northern Song's third peaceful succession.
2. 1022–1023Kaifeng Prefecture, Eastern Capital · KaifengPer Zhenzong's edict, Empress Liu was honored as empress dowager and Consort Yang as grand consort. The following year the era was renamed Tiansheng, meaning 'sacred of the two,' symbolizing joint rule by Renzong and Empress Dowager Liu.
