Timeline
- 1041–1045León · LeónAfter Ferdinand entered León as Count of Castile, traditional Leónese nobles resented his reforms of court administration and his weakening of hereditary counties. Some powerful magnates resisted passively by refusing service, sheltering opponents, or delaying tribute, creating political tension in the first half of the 1040s.
- 1046–1049Galician frontier · GaliciaFerdinand gradually weakened the opposition by appointing loyalists, revoking or merging certain counties, and breaking hereditary succession of fiefs. Avoiding a wholesale break with the nobility, he combined case-by-case measures with military deterrence, bringing the León–Galicia core region back under royal control.
- 1050Coyanza · CastileFerdinand personally presided over the Council of Coyanza, whose main aims were restoring Visigothic canon law and regulating the conduct of nobles, towns, and officials. The council is seen as the legal conclusion to the internal turmoil of the 1040s, freeing political resources for large-scale external reconquest after the 1050s.
