  2. c. -553–-550Persia (Fars) · FarsAstyages' grandson Cyrus rose in rebellion against his overlord; after several years of war, c. 550 BCE Cyrus defeated the Median army in a decisive battle, Astyages was captured, and the Kingdom of Media was absorbed into the Achaemenid Persian Empire.
