Timeline

  1. 1071–1075Gyeonggi kilns, Kaesong · KaesongFrom the reign of Munjong to Sunjong, the Gyeonggi tribute kilns fired celadon in reduction flames, producing jade-green, lustrous glazes on wares ranging from bowls, dishes, vases, and pillows to ritual vessels; the craft, influenced by Song porcelain, gradually localized and laid the foundation for later inlaid celadon.
  2. 1074–1078Goryeo court, Kaesong · KaesongBetween the Xining and Yuanfeng eras of the Northern Song, Goryeo repeatedly sent envoys to the Song court, presenting celadon and receiving porcelain and antiquities in return. The two sides drew on each other's ceramic techniques; Goryeo celadon absorbed Song strengths in body and glaze recipes and vessel decoration while developing its own distinctive bisae glaze tendency.
  3. 1077–1080Old kiln sites, Gangjin County · Gangjin CountyIn the late 11th century, kilns around Gangjin in Jeolla Province began to flourish, expanding celadon output thanks to high-quality clay and fuel resources. The area thereafter became the core production area of Goryeo inlaid celadon, marking a shift of celadon production from Gyeonggi to the southern provinces.
