  1. 1051–1053Kaesong (Kaesong-gyeong) · GoryeoAfter Gang Hang-jeon's great victory over the Liao at Giju in 1018, the Liao abandoned further large-scale campaigns against Goryeo, and peace was reached around 1022. By the 1050s this arrangement still held; Goryeo no longer needed to commit its main forces against Khitan southern incursions, and diplomacy focused on maintaining a stable tribute order.
  2. 1054–1058Liao Shangjing Linhuang Prefecture · Liao dynastyGoryeo routinely sent tribute missions to the Liao court bearing local products to Linhuang Prefecture (Shangjing) or Nanjing; the Liao emperor returned letters of state, investiture titles, and silk. Though this vassal–investiture etiquette was unequal, it bought tacit Liao acceptance of Goryeo independence from Northeast Asia's strongest military power.
  3. 1056–1060Yalu River–Boju area · East AsiaDuring the peaceful period there was limited border trade and movement along the Yalu River, with Goryeo merchants and civilians trading with Khitans and remnant Bohai people in Liao territory. The generally stable border gave Goryeo the diplomatic precondition to shift military resources toward the Jurchens in the northeast.
