Timeline
- c. 1180–1209Reppichau (Repgow) · SaxonyBorn into the Repgow family of the Selmert plateau south of Magdeburg, with ancestors attested as early as the 12th century. His later ability to attend the territorial court as a witness indicates he at least possessed the legal standing of a freeman or ministerialis noble.
- 1209–1224Territorial courts in the Magdeburg–Leipzig area · SaxonyFirst appeared as a witness at the Medem court in 1209, and later attested charters issued by the princes of Anhalt and Landgrave Ludwig IV of Thuringia, showing familiarity with Saxon territorial law practice and experience in compiling customary law.
- c. 1220–1233Eastern Saxony · SaxonyAt the request of Count Hoyer of Falkenstein, he first compiled Saxon customs in Latin, then translated them into Middle Low German, producing the Sachsenspiegel. The work is divided into Landrecht and Lehnrecht; he claimed to record old law rather than create new, with little influence from Roman law.
- 1233Salbke (near Magdeburg) · SaxonyIn 1233 at Salbke he witnessed a charter of Margraves John and Otto of Brandenburg donating property to Berg Abbey, after which there are no reliable records. Given that the Sachsenspiegel was completed around 1235, it can be inferred that he died not long after.
