  1. 1333–1339Dadu · BeijingIn 1333 he supported Toghon Temür's accession, gradually eliminated the Elimen faction, and concentrated the Bureau of Military Affairs and Secretariat in his own hands. Made Grand Chancellor in 1339, he abolished the imperial examinations and restricted Han Chinese participation in high office, reaching the peak of his power.
  2. 1340Nanchang · NanchangIn 1340 Toghon Temür and Toqto'a closed the city gates against him while he was out hunting, launched a coup, dismissed him and sent him into exile. His policies were immediately reversed and the imperial examinations restored, paving the way for the Zhizheng era's new policies in 1341.
