Timeline
- 1619Liaodong · LiaodongCommander Yang Hao by imperial order assembled four Ming columns: Du Song on the left, Ma Lin in the center, Liu Ting on the right, and Li Rubai in the north, agreeing to rendezvous at Hetu Ala in early third month. The Ming forces claimed 180,000 men, but coordination between columns was difficult and intelligence unclear, leaving Later Jin an opening for a concentrated counterattack.
- 1619Sarhu · LiaodongThe Later Jin main force first struck Du Song's overextended left column, annihilating the Ming troops around Sarhu and Jiefan Mountain, where Du Song was killed. It then turned on Ma Lin's center column at Shangjian Cliff, routing the Ming again. Both main columns were destroyed within days, and the battle's outcome became irreversible.
- 1619Sarhu · LiaodongLater Jin continued defeating the columns in detail: Liu Ting's right column was surrounded and destroyed at Awagang, with Liu Ting killed; Li Rubai's northern column retreated upon hearing of the defeats. The four-column campaign failed completely with heavy losses; Later Jin gained full strategic initiative in Liaodong and immediately advanced east to destroy Yehe.
