Timeline

  1. 1006–1007Vengi · Andhra PradeshThe sons of Tailapa II, son of Western Chalukya king Satyashraya, invaded the Eastern Chalukya kingdom of Vengi around 1006, intending to break the Chola–Eastern Chalukya alliance. To relieve Vengi, Chola emperor Rajaraja I ordered crown prince Rajendra to lead an army north to counterattack the Western Chalukya homeland.
  2. 1007Northern Karnataka · KarnatakaRajendra advanced north with a large army (inscriptions claim about 900,000 men, likely rhetorical exaggeration), capturing Santalige, Kadambalige, Banavasi, Kogali, and other places, and besieging the fortress of Bankur. The Chalukya commander Lenga Keta was killed in the Battle of Bankur, and the Chola forces swept all before them.
  3. 1007Donur · KarnatakaSatyashraya personally led the Chalukya army to face the Chola expeditionary force at Donur. Rajendra defeated Satyashraya, then plundered Banavasi, Donur, Bankur, Kudalasangama, and parts of Raichur Doab, establishing control over Gangavadi and Nolambavadi. The Western Chalukyas were forced to withdraw from Vengi.
