Timeline
- 1254Acre · PalestineLouis IX learned in 1252 of the death of his mother Blanche of Castile, leaving a regency vacuum and unrest among the French magnates. He concluded a truce of two years, six months, and forty days with the Ayyubid prince al-Nasir at Acre, securing his return; the nobles of the Kingdom of Jerusalem also judged his fortification work complete and agreed the king should return to France.
- 1254Port of Acre · PalestineOn 24 April 1254 Louis IX sailed from the port of Acre with the queen, royal family, and retinue, formally ending his four-year stay in the Levant. The fleet encountered a storm off Cyprus, and the queen was only saved after vowing a silver ship at the Church of Saint Nicholas in Valangin; the voyage also saw a fire hazard.
- 1254Hyères · ProvenceAfter roughly three months at sea, Louis IX landed at Hyères in July 1254 in the domain of his brother Charles of Anjou, ending the Seventh Crusade begun in 1248. After returning he set about restoring the French political order destabilized by his mother's death and preparing the future Eighth Crusade.
