Timeline

  1. c. -1200–-1000Eastern Greater Iran · Iranian PlateauAccording to scriptural tradition, Zoroaster received revelation from Ahura Mazda, preached the choice between good and evil and the opposition of truth (asha) to lie (druj), and criticized the sacrifices and intoxicating rites of his time. These contents come from the Gathas and later biographical layers and cannot be pinned down as a datable event around 630 BCE.
  2. c. -1000–-550Iranian Plateau · IranZoroastrianism later became an important religion of Greater Iran, flourishing especially in the Sasanian period. Writing the canonization of the Avesta, the regulation of fire worship, and the Achaemenid official religion directly as a 'second stage of reform' he himself completed in 550 BCE exceeds the evidence. The old entry's dating of about 600 BCE is only a traditional median value, not a consensus.
