1. 1318–1321Persian Gulf · West AsiaDeparting Venice eastward in 1318, he traveled through Asia Minor, Persia, and the west coast of India, and around 1321 pushed on toward Southeast Asia and China, laying the groundwork for his activities in the Far East in the 1320s.
2. 1322–1330Hangzhou · Yuan dynastyIn the 1320s he was active across the domains of the Yuan court and South Asia, witnessing the prosperity of cities such as Hangzhou and Dadu and recording his observations of Tibet and India. In 1330 he returned to Venice by the overland route through Persia, completing a long journey across Eurasia.
