  1. 1121–1124Pala capital (Munghir or a nearby fortress) · BengalRampala was the last powerful Pala ruler, recovering some lost territory and rebuilding great Buddhist monasteries. In his later years the central military and finances could no longer sustain effective rule over the vast Bengal delta.
  2. 1124–1127Eastern Bengal and vihara districts · BengalAfter Rampala's death his successors lacked authority, and local chiefs and monastery estates went their own way. The Buddhist monastic political network on which Pala rule depended gradually lost its coercive power, and royal authority became nominal.
  3. 1127–1130Southeastern Bengal (birthplace of the Sena dynasty) · BengalThe Sena dynasty consolidated its base in southeastern Bengal and pushed northwest, nibbling away at Pala remnants. By around 1130 Bengal's political center of gravity had clearly shifted to the rising Sena power, and the Pala era was nearing its end.
