c. 1051–1060Southern Morocco · MoroccoUnder Yahya and Abu Bakr, Yusuf used his outstanding military ability to lead the Sanhaja coalition, consolidating control over the tribes of southern Morocco and laying the foundation for his later independent rule and the conquest of Fez and Marrakesh. His power rose further after Yahya's death in 1056.
