1411–1418Târgoviște · TârgovișteAfter Ottoman sultan Mehmed I reunified the empire, Mircea the Elder continued to rely on support from the Kingdom of Hungary to maintain Wallachian independence, while having to pay tribute to the Ottomans; in his late years he devoted himself to arranging the succession and consolidating the Danube defense line.
