During Recceswinth's reign the Liber Iudiciorum was compiled, fusing Roman law, Germanic custom, and canon law into the kingdom's fundamental law.
  2. 672–687Visigothic Kingdom · SpainWamba once purged noble conspiracies, but thereafter royal successions grew even more frequent. Power struggles between Egica and Witiza, along with factional strife among nobles, eroded central authority, significantly diminishing the kingdom's military mobilization and internal cohesion.
  3. 687–700Iberian Peninsula · Iberian PeninsulaBy the late 7th century, though the Visigothic Kingdom still controlled most of the peninsula, noble disaffection, declining military effectiveness, and lax frontier defenses prevailed.
