Timeline
- 1495–1497Worms · WormsOn August 7, 1495, the Diet of Worms passed the ordinance establishing the Imperial Chamber Court, issued together with the Eternal Peace Decree and the common penny tax. As an official court of the Empire rather than the emperor's private tribunal, its first seat was Frankfurt, soon moved to Worms, implementing the ban on private warfare through judicial channels.
- 1527–1689Speyer · SpeyerAfter short-term seats at Frankfurt, Worms, Augsburg, Nuremberg, and Regensburg, from 1527 the court was long established at the imperial city of Speyer, forming relatively stable procedures for appeals and peace litigation, and gradually introducing confessional balance arrangements after the Reformation.
- c. 1693–1806Wetzlar · WetzlarAfter French forces occupied the Rhineland the court withdrew from Speyer, residing at Wetzlar from about 1693 until the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806. Despite persistent criticism of its backlog and trial deadlines, it remains an institutional legacy of permanent supreme justice at the imperial level.
