  1. 1341–1350Bursa · Bursa ProvinceReceived an Islamic and military education at the Bursa court under his father Orhan, tutored by Lala Şahin Pasha and others, preparing for his future accession and Balkan campaigns.
  2. 1362–1389Adrianople · Edirne ProvinceSucceeded in 1362 after Orhan's death, moved the capital to Adrianople, created the standing Janissary corps and the timar fief system, and continued pressuring Serbia, Bulgaria and Byzantium until he was killed at the Battle of Kosovo in 1389.
