  1. 1674–1675Fehrbellin · BrandenburgAt France's request Sweden invaded Brandenburg from Pomerania; Elector Frederick William rushed back from the Rhine front and defeated the Swedes at Fehrbellin with inferior numbers. Though small, the battle severely damaged Sweden's prestige and prompted Denmark and the northern German states to join the anti-Swedish camp.
  2. 1675–1678Pomerania and Bremen · PomeraniaAfter Denmark declared war on Sweden in September 1675, the Brandenburg–Danish–Austrian coalition invaded Swedish Pomerania and Bremen-Verden from north and south, capturing fortresses such as Stettin and Stralsund; Sweden's German strongholds fell successively in 1677–1678.
  3. 1679Saint-Germain-en-Laye · FranceAlthough Brandenburg had nearly driven Sweden from Germany on the battlefield, France, to preserve the anti-Dutch alliance, forced Frederick William in the 1679 Treaty of Saint-Germain to return most conquests, keeping only part of Pomerania east of the Oder. The northern German war thus ended, but Brandenburg's military prestige was established.
