  1. 1592–1600Hanseong (royal capital) · Gyeonggi ProvinceDuring and after the Japanese invasions his status rose with Grand Prince Imhae's deposition, and he gradually took hold of real military and administrative power, becoming a central figure in King Seonjo's late-period succession struggles.
  2. 1601–1608Hanseong (royal capital) · Gyeonggi ProvinceAs a royal prince he effectively directed state affairs, reformed the postwar finances, handled factional strife, and prepared for accession; he succeeded to the throne after King Seonjo's death in 1608.
  3. 1608–1610Hanseong (royal capital) · Gyeonggi ProvinceAfter acceding he changed the era name, adjusted personnel at the center, pursued pragmatic diplomacy and financial reforms, consolidated royal authority, and responded to the new situation with the Jurchens in the north and relations with Ming.
