Dil Na'od
Dil Na'od is, in Ethiopian tradition, the last ruler of Aksum, active in the 9th or 10th century.…
Timeline
- 900–960Aksum · AksumTradition records him as the youngest son of Degna Djan (Ged'a Jan / Degna Djan), succeeding his brother Anbessa Wedem as negus. E. A. Wallis Budge states his reign may have lasted only about ten years. James Bruce, by contrast, records that he was still an infant when Gudit massacred Prince Degwe Damar and was rescued by nobles, which cannot be reconciled with king lists giving a reign of several decades.
- 920–960Northern Ethiopia · EthiopiaTradition says he campaigned in the southern Ethiopian highlands and dispatched missionaries, and that he co-founded with Abuna Salama I the church of Debre Igziabher overlooking Lake Hayk, also linked to the origins of the Istifanos monastery. One account holds that he was defeated by Mara Takla Haymanot of Lasta, who married his daughter Masoba Work; his descendants are said to have fled to Amhara, with the Solomonic dynasty restored only under Yekuno Amlak. All these episodes belong to later genealogical and church traditions.
