  1. 1017–1036Heian-kyō · KyotoThird son of Emperor Ichijō, named crown prince in 1017. Resided as crown prince during the reign of his elder brother Emperor Ichijō, receiving imperial education under the sekkan household system of assistance.
  2. 1036–1045Heian-kyō · KyotoAcceded in 1036 after the death of Emperor Ichijō, with Regent Fujiwara no Yorinaga continuing to manage government affairs. His reign continued sekkan politics; court rituals and waka culture remained flourishing, and he died in the imperial palace in 1045.
